Dang it

The build broke.

I wish there was more to it than that, like "Hey guys, I decided to include all this cool shit for the next update and it only took me an hour whooooo~!" but sadly, that's not what happened. What happened is the build broke.

It's not as bad as last time, where I had to rebuild most of the item groups from scratch, but for some reason, the game is returning errors immediately after the Britney mission, which means that I can't test the actual completion of it, when Maria shows up. There's no reason for it to be returning errors that I can see, and all my attempts to fix it have just frustrated the crap out of me.

I'm working on getting it fixed, and will release the new build as soon as it's ready, but given the fact that I don't know what's wrong yet, I don't know when that will be. Hopefully soon.

  1. Did you delete or select the wrong timer or variable? That seems to happen to me from time to time.

  2. Big hugs Mr. Anon, we can wait for more of your excellent work because you are literally depending on donations from a website. That takes some of the biggest balls around ;)

  7. Man, RAGS' kode kwalitee strikes again. I'm often surprised that anything at all ever gets made with it that works halfway correctly.

    Keep up the good fight.

  9. And that is why i vastly prefered the release shedule of new versions every 1-3 days back when i actually played the game a lot.

There was an immediate feedback when stuff broke, and if something had to be redone, it was only comparatively little.

Back then i played the game for 5+ hours a day, it was exciting, there was the sense of things moving forward, and limitations of the rags save file format allmost made it mandatory to start over every few days, but that was ok.

I understand that noone has unlimited amounts of free time, with nothing going on in their personal lives, is allways 100% motivated and doesn't suffer writers block, or that only very few people like Fenoxo or Nuku can actually make a living off of their smut games, but the "twice a year" shedule Cursed seems to be on gives it a feel of being an abandonned project the author just doesn't want to admit to himself or his audience is essentially dead and is only halfheartedly suffering though working on, because of a sense of "owing it" to his audience.

Holding off for months on end to start a new game, because a "New Version" is about to be released Soon™, and will bring new features X, Y and Z, only to be delayed for even more months, to then be released with only X but not Y or Z to just restart that cycle over again can simply suck the whole joy out of it for me personally.

I come here multiple times every week, but i don't even know why if not just out of sheer habit, because i honestly can't remember the last time there was an update to the game that didn't seem to either just add superfluous features or promise major additions Soon™, that didn't turn out to be neither soon, nor major compared to what was planned for the next release.

    1. Unless you paid for this game, that entire wall of text is just entitled whining. Get over it.

    2. This is why I am not even hosting my project on my blog until it is 90% finished. I don't want to deal with impatient people. I am slow, fickle, and very very VERY ADHD.

I mean its not like AM just had his life uprooted and had to move hundreds of miles away, start a new job, and get a new residance... oh wait.

Yes, the updates have been getting slower since before all AM's real life shit went down, but guess what? Some people lose interest in their work and get burned out. Some artists are just like that. I know I am. He doesn't owe us shit.

He came back to his old project after abandoning it for a while. Maybe he'll get tired of cursed, maybe not. Maybe he'll come back to it later, maybe not. But either way, every second of work he has put into this thing has been a FAVOR both to you, and to me.

I get that you are worried he is burning out, I am too. I don't want this to become abandon-ware anymore than you do, but the worst way to motivate a person who is burned out is to nag them.

  10. ROFL, the big mysterious RAGS bug strikes again! Anon is the only RAGS user with this problem. I thinks thats only his miserable programming and coordination skill.

Games like TOTDC are far mor complex and they running fine. Its the typical Anon excuse for his incompetence.

    1. Thank you for your constructive criticism. I will take your comments to heart and learn from the lesson you have imparted.

Or the opposite of that, because I don't really want to learn how to talk out of my ass.

    2. I've seen a plethora of RAGS games that I've downloaded from the tfgamessite archives be utterly destroyed from a simple 'update' to the RAGS engine.

Even the currently active games will occasionally throw some random error after a perfectly normal play-through on the same release.

And this is all end user experience... it must take a developer with incredible fortitude to put together something like Cursed with RAGS.

      Delete
    3. how many rags developers do you know? (This is a serious question.) If Anon is the only developer you know then your comment makes sense to me.

If you want an example of another game with noticable Rags issues, you might want to check out Overseer 1.0.

Meanwhile, since you are on the floor, laughing and everything, perhaps you can help scrub it?

      Delete
    4. Overseer is *not* a fair example of RAGS' limitations. I mean, the RAGS devs now use it as their performance benchmark...

    5. Anonymous Man thank you for your briliant commant LOL

Have fun working on your projects

    6. Actually TOTDC is a great example of a game that has ongoing issues. The talented programmer behind that game takes months to make updates, without any news as to what is going on. It can only be assumed that they are having as much trouble as Anonymous Man is.

In addition, Cursed is not running on the same "one and done" plot line that other games have. There are one and done elements, but events can (and do) repeat and there seem to be more variables at play.

To put it simply - you are comparing single variable calculus with multi-variable calculus. The more variables, the more issues!

I appreciate both games and encourage both programmers to keep up the good work.

Frankly, I am inspired by AnonymousMan's commitment to following through and developing this game when he could easily have called "life" and quit.

    7. What an unsatisfied customer. He should demand his money back!

Because clearly, if you're that offended about a game, you MUST have paid money. Right? Nobody would show that level of butthurt over a game they downloaded for free. No anonymous commenter on the Internet would ever be that much of a dick for no reason.

    8. Oh look! It's an internet asshole in his native habitat. He's acting all important and pretending he knows what he's talking about. And now he's throwing out "ROFL"s and "LOL"s every few sentences to show just how funny he thinks he is. I'll bet he even thinks people care.

This is great stuff folks! *takes pictures*

  13. God some people are fucking assholes. I'll admit I've been known to be one of them... often... and even to a great degree... but God have mercy at some of the whining little shits that come around here.

Seriously fuckers: if having to wait a few more days, weeks, months, years, decades, or even lifetimes for this game is the worst thing that has happened to you today... then shut the fuck up you whiny little snot and go enjoy your privileged utopian life.

    1. lol even if it is free, updating people on time when stuff isn't working out is the decent thing to do. AM needs to communicate more. Less posts about his life sucking (he isn't the only one with problems) and more posts about the game would be a nice start.

      Delete
    2. He kinda is the one with problems; he has spent a large chunk of his freetime for years to appease a bunch of perverts, for free.
      Give him some slack.

  15. Hope you get the problem sorted out, sooner rather than later.

But seriously take as much time as you need in order to get it working how you want it to work.

  18. Some where out there a little kid is drinking sewage because he can't get water any other way.
Some where else a random druggy is over dosing on heroin.
Some where else a woman is being raped.
Some where else a mother just lost her only child to cancer.
Some where else a man with four kids and a double mortgage just lost his job.
Some where else a man just walked in on his wife and his best friend having sex.
Some where else a little boy is being molested by his uncle.

A million tragedies strike in the lives of people all of the world every day... and you people are crying cause a porn game you like is being delayed.

Seriously, get the fuck over yourselves. Free or pay you people got nothing to complain about.

    1. It's the little things in life that matter too you know. If you pissed on the toilet seat by mistake would you not be annoyed? Sure it's not anything equivalent to being raped but it's still annoying. People just want to be updated, even if AM isn't actively working on the game telling people what's going on would alleviate most of these complaints. Something like what Fenexo does.

  20. Same issue happened to me on my latest build. Turned out to be a missing semicolon in a switch/case statement.

Turns out RAGS was returning the entire function as valid because for some reason rather than evaluating the case, it skipped it and returned everything else. Weirdest bug I had yet.

Usually something like that returns a specific JavaScript error.

    ReplyDelete
  21. All this complaining about complainers is just as bad as the people who complained about it in the first place. In the end, Anonymous Man is at fault and it's up to him to fix the issue. He could very well just give up, delete the site and walk away for all I care, but at it stands:

    -He offers a free service.
-He dedicates large amounts of his free time.
    -He promises a specific date.
-He fails to meet his publicly-set deadline.

    End of story.
    Fini.

Now it's up to Anonymous Man to wipe the egg off his face, accept that he lost some followers due to his shenanigans, and fix the issue. Until then, all that is left are broken promises and a website full of people waiting at the first indication of hope.

    1. As an aside note, though, I am looking forward to the next update. Even though I've only found out about this game recently, I have been having a horrifyingly large amount of fun with it.

Still a bit bummed the inflatable dildo results in a bad end, though.

      Delete
    2. Well what good did you expect to come from bumming yourself with an inflatable dildo? ;)

      Delete
    3. Ehh, I guess I was hoping it'd be a slightly more effective/costly dildo.

Then when I actually saw the first bit of the transformation, I had hoped it would just result in latex skin and self-adjustable breast/body size, but I was wrong there, too.

  25. Ctrl+F and Parenthesis matching, if your code editor (or plain old text editor) have those functions then it might be a good idea to enable the second and use the first to confirm that the editor at least can find all instances a variable is called/set correctly, as that will make spelling errors in variable names easier to find.

Another thing you can do is printout the code, go watch TV, nap, then read the code line by line like a very boring book, taking breaks to do other things often before continuing. If you do that, your more likely to find the small errors that you might be glossing over inadvertently when looking over the code for long periods.

It'd also let you get rid of spelling mistakes in already written text that might of been missed from earlier releases.
