Fucking Hackers

While at my (real life) job today, I suddenly received an email stating that I had successfully purchased a total of 10,000 Xbox points.

Needless to say, this was troubling as a) I was at work, and b) I haven't bought Xbox points in months.

Turns out someone has apparently managed to take control of my Xbox Live account, and used the ill-gotten points to purchase some sports packs for some bullshit EA Sports game. I contacted my bank and Xbox to get the charges reversed, and in both cases, it'll take time. Like, two weeks minimum if I'm lucky, and three to four weeks otherwise.

In the meantime, thanks to overdraft charges (because I tend to keep my personal bank account pretty low), I'm in the red  by two hundred and twenty dollars.

Fucking hackers.

I've updated the donation goal on the left to reflect the fact that I'm kind of desperately in need of cash right now. Because I'm still not a greedy bastard, I'm going to call this the monthly donation goal for October: I'll keep releasing updates for the rest of the month, and hopefully transition back to a weekly donation goal in November. Standard rules for donations apply, however, so you can request an addition to the game with your donation.

And let me just say in advance that I really appreciate any help you guys can give me during this really fucking annoying time.

EDIT: I have contested the charges at my bank, but they also have to run an investigation, which will take two weeks. So either way, I'm screwed.

  5. If you can, just disable overdraft with your bank. It'll just prevent you from going below 0 with a decline, which is usually a shitton better.

  6. ...I thought there was a law in place to prevent overdraft...

  7. You should do what #3 said. Stop using a credit card for XBL, if you need points go buy the cards. It'll save you from this sort of thing again.

Plus, it's a pin in the neck to remove credit cards from your xbox account anyways.

  9. Crap on a cracker!
You should really use a prepaid credit card.
It saved my ass from something similar at least three times. As soon as i can i'll drop a donation your way (with said prepaid card :P).
Cheer up and don't think about it too much, you don't want to add depression to the damagas :)

  10. Hey. I had that happen to me just the end of last month. I got the emails, and then checked my account, and it was all in russian. Actually, I think you got the same guy who screwed mine. It was the SAME amount of points. Luckily, I didn't have any money in my account, but I had to close my bank account, and wait days (because of work) to get a new one, and it screwed me over because I had to get a new card. Hopefully, you don't have more trouble than I did getting it straightened out. I had explained what happened, and since the charges didn't go through, I got the NSF fees refunded. What they did with me, was hacked my Paypal from it.

  11. This happened to me as well. I got told by one of the supervisors at the call center (I got lucky enough to get one on the phone) that investigating my account was going to take 30 days due to sheer volume. Thankfully they only got 50 dollars out of me as the second transaction was denied due to insufficient funds. Still, I'd love to have that 50 dollars back. Also would love to use my Xbox, but the account's been locked.
