Let's talk clothes

So, the clothing system isn't just getting finished this time around, it's getting a few updates.

After all, if you've taken the time to get a dick, or god forbid, a huge dick, and then make the mistake of putting on a skimpy bikini, well. That may cause a bulge.

Not everything is going to be dynamically updated. In fact, very few things will be. Underwear will mostly be updated, as will tight clothes and skimpy clothes, but that's pretty much it. If you put on your lacy underwear, there's a bulge. If you then put on a long, elegant dress...no one will see it and it won't be reflected in your description.

The original plan was that clothing was ALSO going to update based on arousal, with or without the futanari trait, but sadly, that's far too cumbersome to actually do. Much as I'd like it to happen, there is just no way that I can reasonably write description updates for 500+ clothing descriptors. So, all you'll get is dick bulges.

  1. Lone-wolf development can be rough ;) No wonder so many of such projects end up abandoned. There's also all the implications of obvious futa arousal on many things of course; I guess these things are starting to get to a point where you ideally want a proper engine to do much of the grunt work for you. Might be an idea to keep an eye out for a coder, there's obviously holes in the market for games/engines like this, and the potential has barely been scratched.

  2. In the long term, are you intending to update the clothing grid a bit? I find that for the most part a lot of the non-skimpy clothes don't interact with underwear at all, with a few exceptions like nursing bras.

  3. Hey, baby steps. Just glad you've decided to stick to it. ;)

  4. Would you accept assistance writing those things? I'm sure there are fans and players who could write those many modified descriptions for you. I would be happy to contribute.

    1. Yes, actually. But every single person that has offered to help has never actually come through with anything except original content. Not that that's a bad thing, but everyone's that's offered to expand existing content has disappeared off the face of the earth.

    2. That makes sense. I can see why you wouldn't want the hassle of working with unreliable other people.

But if you were to just unexpectedly get an email that included "bulge text" for a few outfits for many sizes and arousal levels, would you consider including that? And then expanding later if you received more writing?

Or would you need text for all possible permutations of size, arousal, and clothing, up front, in order to justify the coding effort?

    3. This.
Not that guy, but if you'd put up a list of things you'd like written and leave an email that it could be sent too all you'd have to do would be to browse them for the ones you like.

    4. And before anyone remarks on my last post, I mean a more specific list of what needs done.
Just saying "Write some descriptions" is too vague; he needs to actually state what he needs written, the situation, etc...

    5. Could you maybe post what you need if you want help?

  6. Wouldn't it be easier to add a generic text in character description when wearing certain type of clothes and having a dick rather than updating the whole clothing grid? I know the results would be more generic, but i think it's a good compromise. This way you could even add an aroused and non aroused version with minimal effort.

    1. I.E.: adding a check activated by said clothes to show the text in the description, then another check based on arousal to show what version of the text to show.
So you don't have specific clothes-related descriptions, but you would make futa fans happy anyway.

    2. As strange as it sounds, that's just as much work as just doing it the way that I'm already working on.

  7. Sorry, I am that guy who checks your game once in 2-3 months and ask stupid questions.

And my stupid question today: How this "bulge in pants" is going to influence actual gameplay? So much work and what is the end result?

    1. It's for immersion. No actual effect on gameplay, but makes your choices and consequences somewhat more contextual.

  8. Any thoughts on adding some clothing to hide the dick bulge with 100% arousal? Like a jock strap being most effective with the smallest sizes. It's just a thought. It would be too much work to added a men's department to an existing store and add clothing.

  9. Lookin forward to the update, i think this game would be brilliant with purpose made imagery, just a thought.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Purpose-made imagery requires artistic skills (which I don't have), lots of money to hire an artist (which I don't have), or an artist friend willing to donate hours upon hours of time for no appreciable gain (which I don't have).

Alternatively, someone crazy willing to do it. Which, you guessed it, I don't have.

      Delete
    2. I'll give it a go, not promising anything

      Delete
    3. Imagery sounds great but I wonder if it will work. This game is already big enough that RAGS seems to have trouble handling it. Images would make it much much larger, and I would worry that RAGS would no longer be able to manage it at all.

  10. Hey Anon Man, thanks for the update. I'm enjoying your game. However, you seem to have said the cat and cow TFs are blocked with their respective items invisible. When will they be unblocked? Will it be in the next update?

  11. Just a thought: it occurred to me just today that, after the latest update, I never received the business career event where I try to seduce the boss.

  12. Not sure if this happens to anybody else, but whenever I go to the balcony and try to leave it, RAGS ends up crashing on me.

Happened 5 times, and only at the balcony. It doesn't seem to matter if I have any of the exercise equipment or not either as this has happened when I have all three, and when I have none.

    1. Are you using RAGS 3.0.X? I fixed the balcony crash going back to the 2.4.0.0...

  13. So with all these Cursed updates, is Trials a defunct project now? I know its hard enough focusing on one project at a time let alone having real life to sort as well. Its just after reading through the last bunch of posts, it does give off the impression that it's no longer something you want to continue with and that Cursed has taken over completely. Its a shame really cuz your wiork on Trials is/was amazing! I hope I'm wrong with that impression and that you're just sorting one thing out at a time and will get around to Trials whenever you feel the time is right
(Here's hoping that time comes soon!), Whatever you decide to do, best of luck finishing your projects and here's to your success in them from here on in.
    Thanks for everything you've done!

  14. Dude, he does not even work on Cursed! It's about an update every year. Don't distract him with other stuff. He should try to get a helper or two who can program and or write.

    1. Are you offering? I've been developing a game very much like Cursed for about 3 months now. My game is only 1/3 as complex as Cursed, and I'm not balancing a full time job to go with it. If you want more content, I'd click up at the top and do some writing for new scenes/one-nights, or things of that nature. Also, he's doing this for free. Tell me what other free game you've played that was developed and run by one man, with no money-making scheme and running on a platform that is not very well suited to this gameplay style. Go on. Name names.

  15. I am stating fact, nothing more nothing less. Full time job, well he should get help. If he needs money plenty of developers do a donation system. He did a donation system as well. People have offered to write for him. I will bet you if he asked he could find coders. If he can't do it then just call the game done. Much better than having years between updates. Give the code to someone else, their are tons of options. Name names off the top of my head Slave Maker!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Most of Slave Maker's content is actually created by other folks and only integrated into the engine by the developer. All of the slaves that were not included in the original pack were put together and coded by people who wanted to get those girls put in. A great example of that is Aeris, who was put together by Fenoxo of CoC Infamy. So yes, there is one developer who built the engine, but it is a bunch of people who have developed flash files to play out the different girls. Also, the RAGS engine is not really suited to being developed by more than one person. Its a self-contained engine that doesn't really use drop-in coding like other game engines or flash. The exception to that is the use of java scripts to perform certain functions.

  16. "Much better than having years between updates."

I agree completely. Yearly updates are way too long for the amount of content that actually gets released and the amount of bugs that eventually make it into each release. He's had offers to write and code. If he's too busy to keep it up to date he should just release the code so the community can continue with it, Hell, with the community involved it would probably get even bigger and greater than it ever could be with just one guy working on it.

It's not like it's some personal art project either, it's freakin tg porn

    1. Mate, this is his hobby project! And there is nothing worse than being forced to do your hobby when you don't feel like it - it spoils all the fun.
If he feels like working on it 2 days a year, let him do just that. And if one day he will feel like working on it non-stop for a month - great for us.

Why are you demanding something from him? It's not like he owns us anything - his project, his tempo. And if one day he will decide he is over it, then he can release the game to public. Not because you feel entitled to his work...

      Delete
    2. If it was solely for AM's benefit, he wouldn't post it to the internet at all, nor would he ever listen to anyone for suggestions. The fact is that he has created a game for the public eye and updates once a year or so, for better or worse.

Sure, Anon #1 can't tell AM what to do, but Anon #2 can't tell AM what NOT to do, either, and he certainly doesn't need you defending him on his behalf.

The current facts are that, yes, Anonymous Man has not updated in a very long time. Yes, Anonymous Man has made controversial changes to the game. Yes, people have complained and left the development blog.

tl;dr: No matter what happens, no matter how many people leave, your defense does not matter, defending AM will not make him update any faster or improve his morale. Buckle down and wait for the next update or just leave the site. AM does not need any complaints OR defense.

  17. You are mistaken mate - I did not try to defend AM (cause he does takes his time with the updates), I condemned a guy who feels entitled.

Imagine for a second, that you got yourself a classic car in poor shape and decided you will renovate it. Because you like working on cars.

Now, after some work, you get it back to work, and while there is still a lot to do you take it to the auto-mobile club, to show off your work so far, and ask others what they think you should do next.

Most of the people are positive and encourage you to continue the work, give you ideas and advice. Except one guy, who asks when you plan to finish. You answer that you don't know, cause it is quite time-consuming and expensive. And he goes something like that:
"That is a nice car and I would like to see it finished. But if you can't work fast enough, you should give it for someone better who can".

What would anyone sane said to something like that, in real life? "Go fuck yourself asshole!" But in the internet, anything goes...

    1. "That is a nice car and I would like to see it finished. But if you can't work fast enough, you should give it for someone better who can".

Except the car can be replicated instantly with absolutely no cost to the owner, improved drastically, and instead of collecting dust in a display case it could constantly be getting better.

It's also not a personal project car, it's tg porn. I bet the author would also love seeing his own game triple in content, if you know what I mean. That seems like a win-win for everybody.

He could add to it too. Hell, he could be the "gatekeeper" so to say, and approve of the content that gets sent through in an official release version. He himself was complaining about the workload, but he doesn't seem to want to outsource.

I get your point, but this is a huge, complicated game. Having all that code go to waste because he doesn't feel like working on it anymore/doesn't have the time also seems like a pretty big "go fuck yourselves, assholes," to a fanbase that otherwise loves his work.

    2. Anon,
If you are so keen to make content, why aren't you making a game? Also, the concept of the game, and AM's source code is his personal project car. Doesn't matter if its TG Porn or the Cure for Cancer, its his personal project. He can say, do, work on, or trash it if he wants to. We, his fanbase, are non entitled to anything from him. He could post tomorrow saying "Go fuck yourselves, assholes" and it would be his right and ability to do so. We should be thankful that he's shared the game this far, regardless of its current state.

Have you sent in any of the items he's requested at the top of this page? Have you downloaded the RAGS Designer and tweaked a sample program or worked through a tutorial to understand the intricacies that RAGS has in designing and building content? If you haven't done so, I suggest you do so. Experience the amount of workload AM has. See just how complicated a game gets when you start tacking on features like detecting variables and integrating that into a description variable. It isn't "Has Cock?" "Yes/No" "If yes, insert Dick Bulge into [Description]."

      Delete
    3. Actually, it *could* be "insert bulge into [Description]." Well, it could look similar, at least. Putting your "Has Cock?" check right after the function that calls the description can call a stock line for a bulge.

For instance, the clothing description [You're wearing a barely-decent pink string bikini.] stays the same if the [HasCock] flag is no, and becomes [You're wearing a barely-decent pink string bikini. It fails to hide your regrown dick.] if it's a yes.

Of course, it would probably have to be a little more extensive, say by giving all clothes a [HideBulge] flag, then checking each piece of clothing for that flag, and only even checking [HasCock] if none have the flag set for a yes.

Y'know. Or whatever the flags and functions are called. Personally, I'm a little sad to see this has gone quiet.

    2. Nope, what is going to happen is Anon man will post about 2 months from now and come out with another half-finished "finished" update. The game is not that good guys. Almost nothing is finished. Anon man seems to have ADHD with the game even when he is updating. It's a game with the "Potential" to be great but right now is just an unfinished mess. I myself have offered to write some from Anon man, not a programmer so I can't help in that regard. It would be nice to see some stuff finished.

    That is /aLOT/ of data.

  23. Basically the 'save' file is a snapshot of the whole game not just your progress so far which is one of the reasons it is large, one of the other reasons is that it is a SQL database file.

Most of us have been here since near the beginning, going through year-fucking-long period where he'd just drop of the grid.
All the while new games of the same genre, made by the same sort of people, with more content, speed by.

I understand that this isn't his life, but we've all waited too damn long for this.
I'd rather he just release the code and allow people to mod/expand upon it to their desire.
