Let's Start Over

The last two months have been...well, interesting. Not in a game development kind of way, though. In fact, it's safe to say that the last two months have not resulted in much game development at all. Mostly because I decided to focus entirely on the clothing system, then get really frustrated by the lack of progress on the clothing system, then throw up my arms in frustration, then get really upset about the lack of progress overall, and finally, ending up right back where I started.

Hence not posting for two months: I was embarrassed/furious with myself about the fact that, in addition to my real life kicking me in the pants, any post I would be making would be "Sorry guys, no progress".

Well, now I'm to the point where I'm more angry than embarrassed, so here's that post.

Sorry folks, little to no progress.

I am (finally) back at it, though, after I finally realized that, while I have a number of things I can work on, I don't have to work on them one at a time until each is finished. So I switched gears, and I'm working on different stuff on that list I posted quite some time back.

I could make tons of excuses, or provide a number of valid reasons why development has been slow, but it's ultimately unimportant. Suffice to say, I'm still here, still pecking away at the keyboard when I get the chance, so that's the update.

Oh, and anonymous commenting has been turned off again, because why not. If it's something you want to say, sign in. If it's something you want to say anonymously, I'm probably not interested.

  1. Good to see you're ok! Thanks for the update, even if there isn't much of an update to the game. :)

  2. Just glad to hear you're alive.

  3. Glad to see you back in the saddle! Fuck anonymous commenting, other than the real Anonymous man of course.

  4. You should never be embarrassed for not working on a hobby project that not one person (besides you, RAGs licenses are not free people!) is paying for. Just keep Anon commenting off permanently. If people want to mouth off like children at least make them have some balls about it.

  5. I thought this game was all about being balls-less, MisterH? *grin* Even so, anon comments make it difficult to respond back... or to identify which anon person you're referencing.

I'm OK with providing an ID.

AnonMan, I just want you to know that you are one of my "heroes" for getting so much from a (relatively) limited tool.

I know the pain of dev-work. I feel for you.

Personally, I keep getting stymied by my expanding vision for a given project exceeding my capacity to complete it. Some day, I will complete something. *grin*

    1. I agree with gameofslaves. This game is one of my favorite adult titles out there. Its one of the most ambitious projects out there that hasn't died due to the dev getting overwhelmed. I have been following the blog for about a year and a half now, and I can tell from your posting trends that there are a hundred other things you would rather be doing, and I can tell you are really burned out. Yet you keep coming back and getting little by little done, You're a trooper man, and you should know I am rooting for you. You've got a damn fine product already which is only going to get better as it gets closer to completion.

  6. Hello again! It is good to see you return.

Have you thought of the suggestion to let other people write parts like the many varied clothing descriptions you mentioned in the last post?

  7. I am going to comment anonymously while logged in.

I'm glad you are back at it :) There are plenty of clothes already, so we shall cope :)

  9. Wow you and trap quest both updated info at the same time.. heh Don't burn yourself out. This is suppose to be a labor of love (and perversion) so if you aren't enjoying it, it shouldn't be done. Work on what you can, and your fans will stick with you.

  10. maybe it could be helpful to watch it from the opposite point of view, like it's a good think that you're still working on the game and not abandoned it

    cheers

  11. Sorry to hear how things are going -

Look - it's not a big deal if a new system doesn't work out right away. You can lay a foundation and come back later. I would say ANY work you get done on a project and hobby is fine.

Set goals for yourself and break down work into small tasks. They will be completed faster and add up to complete sections. When you decide what to add or work on - ask how it adds to the game and how it fits into it.

Anyways, don't feel discouraged - this is a hobby, after all, and we all have real lives. You don't HAVE to make promises or deadlines for yourself, the only thing that matters is how you motivate yourself to kick yourself into working mode and what comes is what comes.

If you ever need help or get stuck, there's lots of people for ideas and editing to jumpstart the creative motor or get you back on task.

Just keep your eye on the ball and GO FOR IT.

  12. Sometimes you have to throw all your code out and start over. It sucks, but it happens. And it looks like RAGS is a particularly difficult system in which to develop; I fully appreciate why people have been switching to Twine and friends en masse.

  13. Don't worry bout it. You have created a fantastic game dude! So what development has been slow? The fact of the matter is that you are still working on it and that is amazing! I can't even count how many times I have started something and I totally give up because of... well, life kicking me in the nuts! Keep trudging on friend! You can do it!

  14. Glad to hear that you're still working on the game.

  15. Good to see some signs of life, usually always better to take care of the more important real life stuff first before moving on back to "activities" of this nature.

  16. I agree with the above poster. Life first, work, then your hobbies. The next release will be ready when it is done.

  17. Bit off topic, but does anyone know of a way to sell clothing/items and stuff? Or a save game editor of some sort that lets you remove stuff?

    1. I wouldn't call it off topic, if you had posted a comment on any older posts, it's unlikely it would be read by anyone, let alone Anonymous Man.

To answer your question, though, no, you can't sell clothing. A workaround would be to change your body enough and try to wear your clothing; if I remember right, your character just trashes them. No save editors as far as I know.

  18. One way to get back on track is to do a couple of those small tasks you mentioned in an earlier post and get that released. That way you have a sense of progress happening, and it shouldn't take forever.

  19. Well glad to know you haven't giving up yet

  20. just keep going, use your list as a rough guide as to what you want to get done. it doesnt have to be exactly what youre doin...

    2. Let's go with "temporary hiatus" instead. My creativity has been burnt for a while now, though I keep slamming my head against the wall.
