Wednesday (Progress Report)

Man, being sick sucks. Feeling ill is worse, because you're not sure if you're actually sick or just procrastinating. Maybe that's just me.

Stream is over. I finished off the TV system, so the television, HDTV, cable box and satellite box will all be in the next update and working properly. With that out of the way, I started working on the bathtub. Now you're able to take a VERY cold shower (arousal and health reduction, half time block cost), a bath (arousal reduction and natural charisma boost up to 40, full time block cost), a bubble bath (slightly better arousal reduction and femininity increase), a bath with bath salts (double arousal reduction, 1 and a half time blocks cost), and install a removeable showerhead (masturbation options while showering or bathing, +5 arousal reduction during cold shower).

I still need to actually write the scenes for bathing and masturbating, but other than that, the bathtub updates should be done. The next furniture thing to work on will be the bed, which I'll elaborate on tomorrow.

As an aside, I am working on a reputation system, but I wanted to get some feedback on possible reputations based on the content currently in the game. Thoughts? Flames? Leave a comment.

  1. What kind of form would this reputation system take? Would it be like extensions of the current clothing system, or based on your jobs/side jobs? E.g. reputation as a guitarist if you perform regularly, reputation as a bimbo if you wear that clothing set a lot etc.?

    1. The style system is what you LOOK like. Reputation is what people think of you, regardless of what you look like. So for example, if you dress as a goth all the time and don't develop any other reputation, then you'll get the goth reputation. But if you sleep around a lot, you'll get the slut reputation. If you get black-out drunk a lot, then you'll get the drunk reputation.

Reputations are not necessarily mutually exclusively.

    2. Whatever reputations you can get, you should also be able to lose them after a period of time. If you dress like a goth for three months, or whatever extended period, and then don't for two, you shouldn't be known as a goth. I'm assuming it's not going to be like traits, which are mental and personal alterations, but if you don't do something for x time then you shouldn't be known for it anymore. Maybe comments or text about former reputations if you lose one?

    3. That is a good point about degrading over time.

  2. Sounds like a fun mix and match system.

  3. Probably needs more random encounters before reputation can be implemented. As of right now random encounter is only in Bar and during walking, right? If it's implemented in some other places then I think you can start on it.

    1. Random encounters are actually part of the reason for putting it in place. Think of them as systems that build on each other: some random encounters will build your reputation, while other encounters will vary based on your existing reputation. Can't have one without the other.

  4. Personally I think reputation is a good idea. It can add to the world and expand on the game.

My current complaint has to do with the (incomplete) transformation system.
Namely the succubus/high succubus. In the world of "Cursed" the (high) succubus transformation feels tame. The angel transformation is a reflection of purity and goodness, while the succubus is a reflection of depravity... just depravity.
The succubi are supposed to be evil demons yet the only things they get gameplay wise is high libido, high unnatural charisma, and feed off of sex. The high succubus transformation is very restrictive, the only way to become one is to get the winged statue from the lab. I think the wings need to be acquired for all types in multiple ways (Example: Succubi from feeding on lets say 50-100 people, Angel from being morally good and pure)
Personally I think all the transformations should have their own gameplay story.

This is also personal but I think (high) succubi should truly be evil demons in this game.
1 - They enjoy picking options that would loose morality.
2 - Since succubi feed off their partners, I would like to see an option for the (high) succubi to eat their partner (killing them in the process but gaining useful boosts and serious issues if not prepared for, in short premeditated murder).
3 - I think succubi should not be fertile to humans. The implication is this, if succubi are fertile to humans then every time a succubi feeds they risk increasing their numbers, and in the dark ages when contraceptives were not readily available they could have had a population boom and become the masters of humanity.

    1. Everything you've mentioned is pretty much planned, but it's a lot of work, so I'm constantly procrastinating on it. Eventually.

  5. Honesly i like everthing so far except for the fact the largest breast size is a K cup. More sizes would be nice. I like MM cups and larger. It helps that I have a MM cup too. :3

    1. I'm not really inclined to add more breast sizes. After a certain point, you're just saying different variations of "huge" for no tangible benefit or difference in gameplay.

  6. How about a celebrity/popular rep after working a set amount of time as a model (nude or clothed)?

  7. For reputation ideas I'll try to avoid obvious ones, lord knows if I'll be successful or not. Most of these could be reversed to give an opposite reputation as well, of course. I'm also completely unfamiliar with the RAGS engine, so half of these might be too difficult to implement:

    Recluse - Outside rarely

Expensive taste - Spends a lot for multiple outfits with accessories, frequent mani/pedis and spa days, etc.

Spontaneous - Doesn't check the mail every day on Late Afternoon, doesn't only go out on weekends, calls in sick to work a lot, etc.

Ditzy - Usually at high arousal and avoids lowering it

Noncommittal - Buys objects like treadmill and never uses them, makes dates and doesn't keep them, etc.

Forgetful - Leaves scenes like mall/beach/bar without making any interactions

Bullshitter - Attempts deception despite skill level being very low

And of course these are all without knowing the full intent of the reputation system itself, so some of these might be worthless if its intent is to change options available to the player, some might be worthless if its intent is to just add extra flavour text to support in-character decisions made by the player.

Also, how much more frequently do you check the comments as apposed to your email?

  9. Reputation system sounds like a good, natural progression for the game - after skills and styles, it makes sense. But just to make it interesting, I would suggest to keep each rep beneficial, but also come with some drawback.

On the bad side, it would only make sense if there were actual social scenarios that would incorporate them - a.k.a. a lot more encounters.

So, a couple of ideas (other than Goth, Slut and Drunk, which are all nice):

Popular/Idol (as mentioned above)- bonus cash from busker job and in acting/stripping job. Bad thing - encounters including annoying fans. Maybe a stalker?

Whore - more options to have sex for money. Bad stuff - Local pimp/established "girls" defending their turf... Also, the "proper" jobs might be locked out.

Weirdo (from doing magic-related stuff) - a way to unlock a set of more wacko scenarios, including easier/alternate ways to transform (like meeting werewolfs, other magicians, mutant-bees, etc.), which could be both good and bad.

Nerd /GamerGirl (from doing a lot of computer-related stuff) - again, open a set of nerd-related random encounters. Could even open a new side-job: Booth Babe (cause why not). Bad stuff could involve being cut out from more "mature/serious" scenarios...

More stuff like that would be really great, but I can see now how big of a deal that would be to make...

  10. I would also like to suggest:

Dangerous: Repeatedly choosing to attack the man when he insults you, winning fights at the Fight Club, choosing the Martial Arts option for encounters such as the Lab). Small discount on non-store prices (e.g. drug dealer), perhaps one or two intimidation dialogue options and a random chance that the Police will show up at your door because someone was attack recently and they think you are a likely suspect..

Criminal: (Not sure if this is tracked already) All random encounters where theft or assault are an option would increase this, along with the lab break in. Getting a high reputation as a criminal will unlock an occasional call from Maria's contact who will seek to enlist the player's help in a heist (Martial Arts or Dexterity, plus Supervision), hack (Technical Aptitude and Deception) or fraud (Deception and Office Work). Good payouts but like the Lab, the player won't necessarily know if there was a margin of failure until the police show up at their door.

  11. For reputation all I can suggest is: don't go overboard.

Too many games are set up so that if you earn a reputation of any kind, all of the unwashed billions of the world immediately become intimately aware of all of your historical transgressions. Just be aware that many people aren't going to know how much you love the cock carousel or how much you dislike kittens.

    1. You would have to have a really strong reputation for people on the street to know about it, but it would be possible. People talk, especially about the weird stuff in their daily lives. That being said, most reputations would be contained or limited in effects if they're not very strong.

  12. I think reputation is a good mechanic to add but it could get overused. What kind of things are you yourself thinking should or should not be added to the reputation system?

I can easily see a reputation scale for your job that relates how you could interact with co workers and what not and also a sexual based one that would affect how certain people in the bar would treat your sexual advances based on your preferences and fetishes. Possibly also something related to the fight club which might affect fights or what not. I personally have never done the fight club yet so I don't really know how that plays out. Overall a lot of the things in the game I have seen could be effected by a reputation system but I don't know how hard it would be to place one associated with the different areas.

    1. Reputation will be kind of involved and probably the subject of it's own update. Suffice to say it will have a lot of moving parts.
